Carnaval Brunch at Uma Nota
What do you get when you cross delicious Brazilian-Japanese fusion cuisine, tasty (and might I add, strong) caipirinhas and the sizzling atmosphere of a samba-infused block-party? Answer: Uma Nota’s “Carnaval Brunch”!
And yes, you read that right, not “carnival” but “carnaval” because the meat is divine!
If you live in Hong Kong and you haven’t tried it, believe me sis, you are missing out.
Seating starts at 12pm, but if like me you run on African-time you can rest assured that you won’t miss the party. As you walk in, you’re ceremoniously tagged with green and gold– nothing says party like face-paint right? 😀
The vibe is laid-back fun. As you settle in at your table you’ll find yourself tapping your feet to the DJ’s mix…or even singing along like I was (Quietly, I promise – I couldn’t help myself!)
On the tables you’ll find makeshift instruments – empty cans filled with sand make great shakers and old pipes and water drums make a amazing percussion instruments.
Almost immediately, waiters come up with jugs of refreshing caipirinhas – watermelon or passionfruit – that is the question. (*whispers* “Passionfruit! You won’t regret it” 😉 )
In no time the real show starts – I won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say there’s a whole lot of sweeping, drumming and dancing, and everyonegets involved. There’s even a samba costume in there somewhere…
Now let’s not forget about the food. Uma Nota do not disappoint.
Tapioca and halloumi bites, chicken and okra dumplings……
Delicious squid, roasted sea bass…
Just so much to love!
All the while, the energy and excitement in the room is building with each course and each new skit by the performers. And why stop there when the dance floor is so close? You’ll find yourself shimmying with Camilla as you wait for your dessert. Singing your heart out with Alfonso and the band – well at this point you are the band.
And of course, there’s the caipirinha bar – if you’ve always wanted to learn to make the perfect caipirinha, it’s your lucky day! To be honest, even if the thought had never crossed your mind it’s still your lucky day.
All in all – I would whole-heartedly recommend this spot. If I had to describe it in one word it would be: Joyous. Go get some joy!
